The Z Sharp Big Band
The Z Sharp Big Band is an 18-piece jazz orchestra specializing in classic swing music from the original Glenn Miller/Tommy Dorsey Big Band era. The group's members cover a wide age range spanning four generations. It is this wonderful blend of experienced musicians and young people that gives the band its infectious energy. The Z-Sharp Big Band was founded in 2004 by Jeff Zimmerman, Chris Maynard and Glenn Matthews. They are grateful to those fellow musicians and band directors who have graciously assisted with music arrangements, contacts and other details that have helped the band get on its feet.
Mary Rose
Mary Rose Molinaro
A native of Pennsylvania, Mary Rose was singing before she could talk! Third oldest of ten (yes, you heard right), she and her entire family performed with dad on piano and mom on guitar. Known to the Z-Sharp band members as "The Diva," MR has a degree in performance from Otterbein College with an extensive background in musical theatre. Signature roles include "Audrey" in "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Adelaide" in "Guys and Dolls." MR works in Outreach and Recruitment for the Ohio State University. She also works as a professional voice-over artist and is a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). MR just released her first CD titled "You'll Never Know." which can be purchased on CD Baby or at one of the band gigs.
Jimmy Seitzer
Jimmy Seitzer
Classically trained, Jimmy started singing with Opera Columbus and various local community theatre groups over ten years ago. But since the Big Band bug bit, he's changed his tune and works the great standards with his partner, Mary Rose. When asked why he prefers singing with Big Bands, Jimmy will tell you, "it's like flying F-16's, baby!" Jimmy has had a lot of success with a unique exercise program he developed specially for singers called Vocal Fitness.

Alan Stull - Alto & Soprano
Alan leads our fine sax section. He grew up in a musical family, with a musical mom and wife, and 6 adopted children all of whom are playing music. Music education and participation has had a great influence on his life. Alan was a John Philip Sousa Band Award Winner for 1978. Alan plays tenor, alto, baritone, and soprano sax for bands all over Central Ohio, including Cyndi Black Big Band, Jim Johnson Orchestra, Swing's The Thing, In Full Swing, Rick Puderbaugh Jazz Quartet with Mitch Matthews, Grove City Community Winds Concert Band and the Highland Baptist Church Orchestra. He has also played in the DeVry Jazz Band, Golden Buckeyes Big Band, and he was leader of the Déjà Vu Big Band. Alan makes his living as a Sr. Systems Programmer for the Ohio Public Employee's Retirement System. His son, Chris, regularly sits in with the Z Sharp Big Band and plays trombone.

Thom Slack
Thom serves as the band's musical director and anchors our trumpet section. He is a proud product of the Cherry Hill (NJ) Schools Music Program and Virginia Tech, Thom now makes his living as an engineer with the Ohio DOT. That is also where he got his first local musical break in 1991 with the State's unofficial band, ODOT's Division of Music. From there, he joined the Columbus Pops Concert Band, and took over as Director of that group in 1997. Thom has also performed with the "Polished Brass" quintet and done a couple of shows with Shadowbox Caberet's house band "Bill Who?".

Fred Ahlborn
Fred is literally the BASS of the band. As a Marysville resident and frequent traveler for the Ohio School Facilities Commission where he is a Project Administrator, Fred always has the longest trip to any rehearsal or gig with the Z Sharp Big Band. Fred plays Bass and Tuba with Z Sharp, and is a member of the Columbus Pops Band and Scioto Valley Brass Band & Percussion Company. He is a Retired Enlisted Band Leader for the 122nd Army National Guard Band. He has been more than 50 Musical Theater performances in four different productions, and has played Oliver (Daddy) Warbucks in Annie. Fred is an Otterbein grad and an avid handball player.

The Rest of the Band
For most gigs, the Z Sharp Big Band will fill your stage with 5 saxes, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets, bass, drums, guitar, and keyboard, then Mary Rose and Jimmy add a little glitz as our vocalists.
